Cause and Effect Essay Examples

Cause and effect essays are assigned for a long time now. They are more frequent when you study in college, but even some high school students get them. The requirements can vary every time you get this kind of paper, but two things will be the same – structure and purpose.

For those who have not written this essay type before, I created a full page of cause and effect essay examples. This will show you how to approach an effect and find its cause, or vice versa.

Even if you have written such papers, you can still find the writing troublesome. For some, the reason is lack of time. For others, it’s a lack of motivation. With my help, you can learn how to write faster. You can also read a cause & effect essay example and get motivated or get an idea. If nothing works and you still need assistance, go to my reviews page and look for someone to help you with this assignment.

Structure of a cause and effect essay

Every student should know the big rule about these papers: “You need introduction, body, and conclusion”.

This is the basic structure of a good essay. But, depending on the essay type and instructions, you need more details to write a top graded paper.

Here is how I approach this when writing my cause and effect essay examples:

  • Write an informative introduction
Open with a general introduction to your selected topic. Provide some background information and lead to your thesis statement. A thesis statement should present the main effect and cause. If you plan to discuss more than one of each, this should all be introduced in this part.
  • Choose my approach
There are two ways to approach a cause and effect essay. First, you start with the cause and then introduce and discuss the situation/effects. Or, you start with the effects and go back to the cause.
Let’s say that you are writing about childhood obesity. You can either talk about what causes obesity and then move onto what it means for a child. Or, you can talk about the problem and slowly introduce what caused it.
It is a chain that goes both ways and you cannot go wrong. But, it becomes complicated if you don’t know what your starting point is. Decide on this as soon as possible.
  • Get into detail
This is the part when I get my research into action. I use body paragraphs to explain each cause or effect completely and understandably. I explain every relationship by using evidence such as statistics, expert testimony, scientific studies, and even anecdotes.
Be very careful not to include speculations and inaccurate or irrelevant research data in this task. This essay should be based on facts, not unsubstantiated guesses. Do not even start writing before you gather realistic, checked information about the cause and effects.
  • Use phrases of causation
Because of the nature of this essay, they always include certain phrases that denote the linkage. Make sure to include words like: because, due to, as a result, hence, thus, consequently, since, and therefore to demonstrate causation.
  • Wrap up with a reinforcing conclusion
Many students make the mistake of focusing entirely on the body paragraphs just to mess up the ending. This is equally important. The conclusion must reinforce your thesis and make sure that readers understand the relationship between the two things you analyzed.

Remember – every cause and effect essay sample here is free. I wouldn’t recommend copying my words and submitting plagiarism, but I highly hope that I’ll provide you with the help and motivation that you needed.

Sincerely yours,
Julie Petersen
